At Birmingham Tuition Centre we have designed a full time study programme providing students with the opportunity to undertake their GCSEs or their A-Levels in their entirety.
We focus predominantly on the core subjects, namely, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English, and allow our students to select them all at GCSE level. Our A-level students are permitted to undertake a maximum of three core subjects at AS and A2. All GCSEs and A-Level courses are assessed in a linear format and as such exams are held once a year in June. This is in consideration of the changes made to GCSEs and A-Level courses taught from 2015.
We expect all our full time students to attend the centre for at least 15 hours per week, during the course of which they will be taught by their tutors. This is a compulsory requirement and failing to comply with this could result in the activation of stringent disciplinary measures such as exclusion. Our students are permitted to leave the centre during their lunch breaks, however they must abide by the centres code of conduct. Our uniform policy requires students to wear smart attire and they must not therefore attend in inappropriate or casual clothing.
We recognise that GCSEs and A-Levels can be a challenging and stressful period for many students and we therefore offer both academic and emotional support. We motivate our full time students with the intention that they may be inspired within themselves and achieve the best results possible. We regularly monitor their performance and offer feedback to ensure they excel in their studies.
Upon successful completion of their GCSEs, the vast majority of our students choose to remain at our centre and complete their A-Levels. Other students continue their studies at well-established Grammar School Sixth Forms or renowned colleges.
All of our A-level students apply to renowned institutions including red-brick universities with an ambition to pursue their chosen career. We guide them through their application routes by educating them about their career choices and assisting them with their UCAS applications. BTC is registered with UCAS and we can therefore provide references to universities on behalf of our students to give them an informed assessment of their academic abilities. We also help invigorate our students’ personal statements so they are differentiated from other candidates who are also applying to university.
We equip all our full time students with useful resources such as College Performance Tables, University League Tables, open day information and talks from previous students to channel their decisions in the right direction. Our aspiration is to produce independent, responsible and mature students who become role models for other students and settle down to a successful career. We are very proud and value all our full time students, including those who are a now part of the BTC alumni.
