A Level Biology

“Biology gives you a brain. Life turns it into a mind.”Jeffrey Eugenides

A-Level Biology builds upon the foundation created in GCSE and is predominantly suited for students who enjoyed their GCSE and have obtained a grade C or above, preferably in Additional or Further Additional Science. Although Biology can consist of complex details and a vast amount of theory, the main advantage of studying biology is that the content is gradually built upon, without the need of complex maths. The course presents essential principles on topics which we are confident that students find deeply interesting, thereby stimulating their determination to excel in the subject area. Such topics include but are not limited to:

  • How disease is caused and the respective treatments
  • In-depth understanding of how different components are digested in terms of enzyme actions and the anatomy of the digestive system
  • The importance of DNA and the intricacy of its effects in genetic diversity
  • Deeper appreciation of plant physiology such as light dependency and independency in photosynthesis
  • Medical diagnosis of terminal diseases and genetic fingerprinting for applications in forensic sciences

Biology is a fast-paced course, providing an invigorating challenge for students. How Science Works is incorporated within the course via analysis and interpretation of data and scientific documentation. It as an ideal subject for any students who aspire to study highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry and the likes.
